How to Take a Protein Dispenser Apart and Clean It: Keeping It Clean for the Long Run (DP-M2)
The single best thing you can do for a protein dispenser is take it apart regularly, wash it, and dry it all the way. It handles powder every day, so how you clean it determines how hygienic it stays and how well it works.
Below, the full teardown and cleaning routine for the ALENNE Protein Dispenser (current model), from telling the washable parts apart to getting them dry, step by step from the people who build it.

Why It Needs Cleaning at All
Powder, moisture, and skin oils together are what breed bacteria and clumps, so keeping the unit clean does more for the powder than any container will.
Protein powder absorbs moisture readily, and once it does it degrades and hardens. Leave powder sitting inside the unit and let it draw in moisture, and you get clumps and odor. Washing the dispenser regularly and drying it is what keeps whatever comes out of it safe and good to drink. On storing the powder itself, see What Actually Matters in Protein Storage Wasn’t “Sealing It Tight”.
Which Parts Get Washed, and Which Don’t
Anything that touches protein gets washed. Structural parts like the stand don’t go near water.
- Safe to wash: lid, hopper, agitator, hopper base, main body, measuring section, connecting shaft, lever, nozzle, cap, rotation lock, and anything else that touches protein
- Don’t wash: the stand. Wipe it with a dry, soft cloth instead
- Don’t remove: the spring fitted to the connecting shaft. Wash it attached, because the tip can cut you
Use mild dish soap diluted in water, and rinse well with cool or lukewarm water.
Taking It Apart, Step by Step
Here’s how to take it apart for a proper wash. No tools needed, and the parts come off in order by hand (putting it back together needs no tools either). Follow the photos in order, and you won’t get lost.
Step 1. Open the lid and lift out the agitator

Step 2. Release the clamps on both sides and take the hopper off

Step 3. Take the nozzle off (pinch the flat faces at the front and back to release it)

Step 4. Press the PUSH bar on the back of the main body inward and lift the measuring unit out

Steps 5 through 7. Break the measuring unit down
With the unit out, separate the hopper base, the measuring section, and the rotation lock from the body in that order, then take off the connecting shaft (leave the spring on it). Finally, squeeze the tabs on the lever and pull it off the connecting shaft.

Lifting the measuring unit out in step 4 isn’t the end of it. Keep going through steps 5 through 7 and break the unit down itself, and you can reach the small parts and the recessed grooves. Wash each part with diluted mild dish soap and lukewarm water, and rinse the grooves and corners where powder collects. Leave the spring on the connecting shaft, since the tip can cut you.
What Never to Use on It
These damage the product or cause it to fail, so keep them away from it.
- Dishwashers, including the heated dry cycle
- Abrasive sponges, steel wool, and scouring powder
- Boiling water, rubbing alcohol, and bleach
Wanting to disinfect it properly is a reasonable instinct, and boiling water and alcohol are where it usually leads. Both damage the parts. Diluted mild dish soap and a hand wash is the method.
What Matters Most Is Drying It Fully
Washing isn’t the hard part. Getting it completely dry afterwards is.
Moisture is a dispenser’s worst enemy. Reassemble it with water still on the parts, and you’ve undone the cleaning you just did. The moisture left behind also turns the next batch of protein into clumps. Dry every part after washing, check there’s no water anywhere, and only then put it back together.
How Often to Do It
The time to wash it is when the hopper runs empty.
Once it’s empty, wash it, dry it completely, and refill with the next batch. Switching to a different type or a different brand is a particularly good moment to wash it thoroughly, so the last powder doesn’t carry over into the taste of the next one. Washing the parts means taking the unit apart first, so doing the whole job while it’s empty keeps it simple and keeps it clean.
One Thing to Watch When You Put It Back Together
The part to pay attention to on reassembly is which way the hopper base faces.
Fit it backwards, and the powder never stops: it keeps running out of the nozzle. The check is easy. Fitted correctly, the white face sits at the back. If the white face is at the front and the hole runs straight through, it’s in backwards. The unit has alignment recesses too, but checking that the white face is at the back is the reliable test. Do it before you put any protein in.

Day to Day, There Isn’t Much to Do
Cleaning that feels like a chore doesn’t get done, and this is something you use every day. The ALENNE Protein Dispenser is built so your hands never touch the powder, whether you’re refilling it or using it, which keeps the everyday handling hygienic and simple.
The lever measures for you, and skipping the scoop means fewer dishes to wash. Taking it apart for a full wash only needs to happen when you finish a batch, not carefully every day. If you break or lose a part, you can buy that part on its own, and we stock replacement parts for 6 years after a product is discontinued, so you can keep using it.
In Summary: Wash It Apart, Dry It Fully
Keeping a protein dispenser clean over the long run comes down to taking it apart regularly, washing it, and drying it all the way. Hand wash the parts that touch protein with diluted mild dish soap, and wipe the stand rather than rinsing it. No dishwasher, no boiling water, no alcohol.
The part that matters most is drying it completely before it goes back together. Moisture is where clumps and hygiene problems start. Use the moment the hopper runs empty as your cue, and it’ll stay clean as long as you use it.
